Choosing Homebirth After Three Hospital Births
Alyssa was such a joy to care for. After 3 hospital births she decided that homebirth was an experience she really wanted. She did her research, talked to other mamas she knew who had successful homebirths, and brought a quiet confidence to the whole process.
Listening to the Clues of Prodromal Labor
On the day of her last prenatal we discussed some prodromal labor she had been having. I told her I felt prodromal labor happened to tell us something about baby’s position. We discussed how her baby seemed to be a bit to one side and positions that could potentially help baby realign. She thought it through and used pillows to help baby realign during her nap, and woke later that evening in active labor!
A Calm and Powerful Waterbirth
When that moment came, Caitlyn and I raced to be with them and she labored beautifully. Her husband and she welcomed their little girl in the warmth of a waterbirth, with wonder, a few misty tears, and awe at the whole process, and the things they hadn’t experienced before; like feeling baby as she came out, helping catch and bring her up to her chest, leaving the cord intact and feeling the smooth cord as it still pulsed blood to their little one, easing her transition to life and giving her vital irons stores and stem cells, and examining the placenta with me, which had held and grown their little miracle.
Goodbye for Now, but not Forever
It was such a beautiful time, and I am so grateful to have been able to walk this path with them. Baby is 6 weeks and our care is done but I hope this is not goodbye. Caitlyn and I so enjoyed getting to know all of these children and their amazing parents.

Every birth has its own rhythm, its own challenges, and its own quiet moments of courage and love. At Heart Strings Birth Services, we believe birth is more than a medical event - it is a sacred unfolding, lovingly supported and deeply personal. These stories are shared with permission to honor the families who trusted us with their care and to encourage others as they walk their own birth journeys.
