The Time Approaches

After the last scheduled birth for February, I felt in my soul that my bestie was going to have her baby the next day. I texted that I was bringing some birth supplies and the pool. Usually these things are prepositioned weeks ahead of time but since Kelsey and I are close she didn’t feel the need for a home visit and I kept forgetting the supplies at our prenatal appointments.

Labor Begins

She knew how tired I was from the previous birth and told me she was sure she would be fine until tomorrow and encouraged me to rest. The next morning I woke to a text saying “Probably bring everything over soon this morning...Don’t worry if you don’t answer the text I’ll call. lol” Kelsey never calls me. I knew it had to really be time. I woke Amanah to come with me and we gathered our things. She was going to come to hang out with Zeke who is a pretty rambunctious two-year-old.

Waiting for the Right Timing

When we got there, things were fairly calm, and you could tell Kelsey wasn’t quite ready to be in active labor. So we left supplies and equipment and went to breakfast close by so she could ease into labor at her own pace. Amanah felt she needed flowers and so we stopped for tulips on the way back. We arrived back and just hung out for a while and enjoyed being together while her labor gently grew in strength.

Big Sisters Calm Attention

When it was obvious that things were getting intense we began to set up the pool and Olive their only girl (who had coincidentally prayed for a baby hoping for a sister) turned off her tablet and said, "it’s time to focus on the birth now." The older boys checked in on mom often and Olive pressed in comforting mom almost as often as her husband Jeff. She was so attentive eventually I asked Kelsey if she was ok with her joining her in the tub and she was.

A Prayer Answered: The Birth of Baby Sister

I will never forget the sweetness of those moments, when finally the last bit of dilation had happened and baby had been kissed and welcomed, Kelsey looked to see who had joined their family. And it was a girl!!!! Just what Olive had asked God to send her before Kelsey was even pregnant! Yes we all cried… and every time I relive that amazing moment for the rest of my life it will most likely be with tears in my eyes.
