A Night of Gentle Cramping and a Full Moon
After gentle cramps most of the night, Sam let me know that it seemed like today was the day. She had told me it would be the full moon and she even wrote me days ahead of time to be safe when I was driving on Monday. And so, the full moon had come, and it was gorgeous in its fullness and so was this beautiful mama.
Heading to the Birth Space
She kept me updated about her contractions and I felt it was time to head her way before things got more intense. We spoke about some position changes on the phone, I stopped for a couple of things at the store, and got a text that her water had broken. I assured her I would hurry, and made my way there. I walked into normal family life with mama sitting on her birth ball and gently breathing through each wave as it came. Eyes closed, jaw and shoulders relaxed.
An Additional Delivery
Her mother cared for the children, and her husband and son brought me the birth supplies. The pool was being filled and they informed me the delivery men were on their way to deliver their new mattress!!!! The first delivery of the day went smoothly and the men left quietly as soon as the mattress was in place and the old one loaded on the truck.
Once they left I could see the shift in Sam. My assistant Emily came quickly after that and with that all of the birth team was assembled. Sam visibly relaxed and her labor intensified dramatically.
First Cry Under the Full Moon
Justin helped her into the tub and from there I will let the video tell the story. Raw beauty, joyful moments with big sister, mother and hubby supporting her. Sam delivered her baby boy and lifted him into her arms with Justin’s support. He snuggled for a moment and then let out the loudest cry letting us all know he was doing well and wanted to tell us all about his journey! I am in awe of this mama and this family. I am so grateful to have been able to witness this love, and with permission share it with all of you.
Every birth has its own rhythm, its own challenges, and its own quiet moments of courage and love. At Heart Strings Birth Services, we believe birth is more than a medical event — it is a sacred unfolding, lovingly supported and deeply personal. These stories are shared with permission to honor the families who trusted us with their care and to encourage others as they walk their own birth journeys.
